The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged as the big winner in Saturday’s local government elections in Rivers State, clinching 20 out of the 23 chairmanship positions.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which currently controls the state government, managed to win only three local councils in the poll supervised by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
Announcing the results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, also declared winners for the vice chairmanship seats.
As of the time of the announcement, results for councillorship positions had not been released.
